New York Jets QB Sam Darnold is less than a month away from making his debut. Bridgewater, though released by the New Orleans Saints in March of this year, has been linked to the Broncos and even Denver’s quarterback situation for weeks now.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Teddy Bridgewater, the quarterback for the Denver Broncos, has sat in a lot of team meetings over the course of his eight-year career, and has had a lot of his errors and fumbles aired in front of his colleagues.
Bridgewater, on the other hand, stated Monday that the Broncos’ most recent film session was the most difficult to watch through because of his failure to tackle Philadelphia Eagles cornerback Darius Slay on an 83-yard fumble return for a score.
“It very certainly was, particularly when slowed down,” Bridgewater added. “In real time, it seems like everything is moving quickly, and you have the sideline to your advantage… but when you slow it down with the clicker in your hand, it appears that this is a dreadful situation. I hope I’m never placed in that scenario again, but if I am, I’ll make sure I put everything on the line.”

After Sunday’s 30-13 defeat, the Broncos had enough of issues to go through, but Bridgewater’s performance had become a social media hot topic in the hours after the loss, which reduced the Broncos to 5-5 heading into their bye week.
On fourth-and-1 from the Eagles’ 23-yard line with Philadelphia leading 20-13 in the third quarter, Broncos running back Melvin Gordon crashed through the pile for what seemed to be a first down by the tiniest of margins. Eagles linebacker Davion Taylor, though, yanked the ball loose, which Slay picked up at the Eagles’ 17-yard line.
After bobbing the ball the first time, Slay picked it up again and circled back all the way to the Eagles’ 11-yard line. Slay then pivoted and began running toward the left sideline, eluding Broncos tight end Eric Saubert, who was unable to bring him down around the Eagles’ 28-yard line.
Bridgewater was standing between Slay and the Eagles’ sideline at the Eagles’ 42-yard line when Slay crossed the Eagles’ 40-yard line with Gordon in pursuit. Bridgewater didn’t make a tackle attempt as Slay passed in full stride in front of him.
“I had the chance to dive, sacrifice, and do anything I could to assist the team, and I failed at that moment,” Bridgewater said. “I’ll take responsibility for it…. That’s one of those situations when I have to admit that I didn’t give it my all on that play.”
End of the defense Shelby Harris was also asked at the meeting what he and his teammates felt after viewing the play.
“I’m going to ride with my quarterback,” Harris added.
“I’d want to see us all chase it a little bit better offensively and find a way to bring that man down,” Broncos coach Vic Fangio said. Teddy’s involvement in the situation… Teddy should make a move for the man,” I say.
Fangio was also questioned about ESPN NFL commentator Rex Ryan, who worked with Fangio for three seasons as a member of the Baltimore Ravens’ coaching staff, saying on television Monday that Bridgewater should have been benched after the play.
“I appreciate Rex’s perspective, but at this time, I don’t agree with him,” Fangio said.
After the bye, Fangio said that backup Drew Lock would not replace Bridgewater, adding that “Teddy is our quarterback.”
“We reviewed that as a team [Monday], and coach said, ‘Hey, my effort needs to be greater there,’ and I completely agree,” Bridgewater said. “That’s not the kind of recording I’d want to put out there. It’s one of those instances where you get irritated after watching it because you know how important this game is to you, and you know that players are out there trying to make a play, and… when you slow it down, it’s like man, just put in more effort. All I needed to do was set everything down. “I’m not going to sit in my chair and feel horrible because coach called me out; I accept full responsibility.”
